Jean Gerson (1363-1429) was a prominent French theologian, scholar, educator and reformer who participated in the Council of Constance of 1414-1418. During the last decade of his life, he is said to have translated or adapted from Latin The Imitation of Christ attributed to Thomas a Kempis. This book, divided into four parts which provide detailed spiritual instructions, is regarded as the most important devotional work in Catholic Christianity.
