The three prominent Latin poets Sextus Propertius (c.50 BC - 15 BC), Albius Tibullus (c.55 BC - 19 BC) and Gaius Valerius Catullus (c.84 BC - c.54 BC) are famous for their elegies. While Catullus was a poet of the Republican period, Propertius and Tibullus flourished in the Augustan age and Propertius enjoyed the patronage of Maecenas and through him of the Emperor Augustus himself. This edition of their carmina or poems is enriched by the commentaries of Antonius Volscus.
